MAC Address Lookup

A MAC address identifies a network interface on its local network link. This page explains MAC address lookups; it does not currently search a manufacturer database.

What can a MAC lookup tell you?

The first part of some MAC addresses may correspond to an organization identifier registered to a manufacturer. A lookup can therefore suggest who made a network adapter, but it cannot reliably identify the device owner, a person's identity, or their physical location.

Why can't I look it up from an IP address?

Routers do not normally forward MAC addresses across the internet. MAC addresses are used for delivery on a local network segment, while IP addresses route traffic between networks. Devices may also use randomized MAC addresses for privacy.
